Driver held in custody for alleged careless driving

The Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan, on Friday, issued an order for the 50-year-old driver, Mustafa Bashiru, to be detained in a correctional facility due to allegations of reckless driving resulting in the injury of a pedestrian.

The decision was made by Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji, as Bashiru was unable to meet the bail conditions of N250,000 along with two reliable sureties that were granted to him.

The case has been adjourned until April 22 for further trial proceedings.

During the court session, the police prosecutor, Insp Oluseye Akinola, stated that Bashiru, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with causing grievous injury to the pedestrian.

The incident occurred on March 24, around 4:45 pm, in front of D-cart building, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State, where Bashiru was driving a ‘Lzzan’ bus with registration number BDG988YH and collided with a 27-year-old woman named Adedolapo Oyewumi, resulting in severe bodily harm.

Akinola emphasized that the actions of Bashiru violated the provisions of Section 18 of the Road Safety Act of Oyo State, leading to the legal proceedings against him.
