Driver and 18 passengers are kidnapped by gunmen while travelling to Abuja
19 people, including a driver travelling from Jalingo, Taraba State, to Abuja on Thursday night, have been abducted by gunmen suspected of being kidnappers.
According to Daily Trust, the passengers, who were all from Taraba State and included women and children, were riding in a commercial Hummer bus when they came onto a road barricade set up by kidnappers late on Thursday night in the state’s Egon region.
It was discovered that all of the passengers including the bus’s driver, Musa Wambai, had been kidnapped and brought somewhere secret.
Further information revealed that the bus was driven away from the scene of the kidnapping by the abductors as well.
The owner of the commercial bus, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the occurrence in Jalingo yesterday and said that the kidnappers had begun contacting the relatives of the victims and demanding payment.
Maiyaki Muhammed-Baba, the commissioner of police in Nasarawa State, stated that the command was made aware of the occurrence and that anti-kidnapping personnel from the command had been sent to assure the victims’ safety.
“The command deployed the divisional police, comprising the local police in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, and the anti-kidnapping unit from the police headquarters to rescue the victims as early as 6 am. All of them are in the bushes looking for the victims as I speak to you,” he claimed.
