Dreadlock use, the wearing of bum shorts, and ladies moving without a bra are not violations, according to the Delta State Police Command.
In a video clip released on his official X Twitter on Tuesday, DSP Bright Edafe, the state’s police public relations officer, provided the clarification.
The changes happened as a result of complaints from locals who claimed that they were being bullied by state police and other security personnel because of how they looked.
However, the PPRO states that no citizen should face intimidation or arrest because of their looks.
Residents were instructed to fight arrest and call him or request to be taken to the police station.
He stated, “I’ve been getting accusations that, occasionally, vigilantes, ant-cults, hunters associations, and some police personnel are intimidating members of the public in Delta State.
“I want to be very clear that when it comes to dress code, inappropriate clothing—including males with dreadlocks, girls with bum shorts, and people moving without bras—is not a violation.
The state administration refuted that circular, thus no security agent may threaten you or detain you as a result.
“You should also insist that you want the matter taken to the police station if they insist that it is an offence.”
The spokeswoman for the command also made it clear that it is acceptable to apply factory-installed tint on cars.
“In regards to tinted cars, factory-installed tinted cars are OK. Only automobiles with artificial tinting are prohibited, he continued.
