Don’t Solely Blame Tinubu for Worsening Insecurity in Northwest, Says PDP Chieftain Dingyadi

Abubakar Dingyadi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has cautioned Nigerians from holding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu alone responsible for the growing level of insecurity in the country’s northwest.

Dingyadi thinks that the governors ought to bear the primary responsibility for the regrettable developments that have occurred in the area.

He urged the President to hold governors responsible for their alleged lack of commitment to fully assisting the federal government and security services in putting an end to the protracted problem of insecurity, particularly those in the Northwest.

Dingyadi made these remarks at a meeting held in Kaduna by the Northern Coalition Group for Transparency and Justice. The paper he was giving was titled “Insecurity, Politics, and Democracy in Nigeria: A Reflection of Yesterday and Our Challenge Today.”

He claimed that the persistent bandit attacks in some places and the body language displayed by concerned leaders were unmistakable signs of political coloration, done at the expense of the lives and property of the people they had vowed to defend.

Dingyadi claims that some governors have become “travel agents,” leaving their states and relying on Zoom chats and meetings while their citizens are being kidnapped and attacked by adversaries within.

He attacked governors for failing to apply security votes wisely and for not trying to apply lessons they had seen in developed nations.

Dingyadi questioned the governors’ unwillingness to set politics aside in order to work together to find a long-term solution to insecurity, as well as their lack of attendance at regional northern governors’ forums.

He emphasised the work done by State Minister of Defence Bello Matawalle while he was the governor of Zamfara State, claiming that bandits had gained confidence to target local government headquarters after being unable to do so in the past.

Dingyadi underlined that Zamfara State presently has between twenty and thirty bandit enclaves.
