Donald Duke Calls for PDP Unity as Wike Declares Freedom to Support APC

Former Governor Donald Duke urges unity within the PDP amid internal conflicts, while Nyesom Wike insists he has the right to work with the APC. Get the latest political updates.
The former Governor of Cross River State has encouraged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to persist in their efforts towards maintaining the party’s stability and unity.
Recently, the PDP has been grappling with internal conflicts and experiencing defections of key members to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the conclusion of the South-South Zonal Congress in Calabar over the weekend, Duke expressed confidence that if party members remain united, focused, and steadfast, they can regain power.
I urge us to remain focused and determined. There is no challenge we cannot overcome.
Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assured the congress that no one within his party or in Nigeria can deter or prevent him from supporting and working for the APC Federal Government.
He firmly stated that he was not engaging in any activities against the party.
He claims that while other prominent PDP leaders are also boosting the prospects of rival parties, they do not face criticism.
The chairman of the Board of Trustees stated that he has no regrets about praising and supporting the LP governor in Abia State.
The BoT chairman stated that he will maintain his support for the Abia governor until the assurance of a second-term ticket is secured.
Moreover, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum attended a celebration for a governor from another party who won an election in his state against the PDP, and this was not considered as acting against party interests.
Wike remarked, “The National Working Committee never criticized the governor for endorsing a governorship candidate from another party. This is what hypocrisy looks like.”
He stressed that no one in Nigeria can oppress or intimidate him, asserting that he doesn’t need to be a governor to understand his rights.
“I will keep fighting until justice is not only served but also recognized.”
Continuing, the minister mentioned, “Prior to becoming the FCT minister, I reached out to the party and engaged in consultations with key PDP stakeholders.”
They agreed and told me to proceed. So, what wrongdoing have I committed? There are elders in this country who do not speak the truth to their children.
In my opinion, I must be honest with others. It’s wrong for political leaders to avoid speaking the truth.
The Southern PDP leaders, including myself and Bode George, agreed to back a Southern candidate for the presidency in 2023. This is why I worked towards Tinubu’s victory in the election.
