In response to the INEC’s announcement of the election results for 2023, Mr. Charles Oputa, often known as “Charly Boy,” has urged Nigerian youths to maintain composure and refrain from reacting emotionally.
At the Unity Fountain in Abuja on Wednesday, Oputa made the statement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The performer said this in response to a group of young people gathered near the Unity Fountain, claiming they were there to protest the Independent National Election Commission’s allegedly fabricated election results (INEC).
“Youth people are gathered here to voice their displeasure with the current circumstances and the just held fraudulent elections.
I’m only here as the Area Father to make sure everything is calm and that everyone is acting morally.
I am here to offer support because I support what they are doing.
The Federal Government wasted money on the exercise, making the election outcome the most fraudulent, annoying, and financially disastrous, he claimed.
He said that since we know how the opponents will use that against us, we cannot afford to appear to be overreacting, and we must act rationally instead.
Oputa stated his happiness with the electoral behaviour of young Nigerians.
The peaceful walk’s organiser, Mr. Isaac Balami, stated that the demonstration was in opposition to the INEC’s announcement of the results of the 2023 presidential election.
By failing to fulfil its pledges, he claimed INEC had violated the code and the peace agreement agreed by political parties.
Balami attributed the high participation of voters nationwide to INEC’s assurances that the election would be transparent and that their ballots would be taken into consideration.
When it became clear that the APC was losing the poll, he claimed, INEC’s Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) stopped functioning in the middle of the election.
The lack of APC victory celebrations across the nation, according to Balami, is proof that the election results did not accurately reflect the preferences of the electorate.
