A thorough data analysis of every relationship DNA test performed at Smart DNA’s facility between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023 has been made public by the renowned DNA testing institution in Lagos, Nigeria.

A noteworthy finding in the study is that 73.88 percent of males who underwent connection testing to confirm their paternity as biological fathers were found to be so.

According to the research published on Tuesday, negative results were found in 26.12% of individuals who underwent testing.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), DNA, also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, is the substance that carries the genetic information necessary for an organism’s growth and operation.

A DNA test, often known as genetic testing, is a type of medical examination that can find changes in a person’s genes, chromosomes, or proteins.

These tests reveal information on a person’s ancestry.

When determining if a person is the biological parent of another person, genetic profiles are used in a DNA relationship test.

The Smart DNA report, which is based on data from thousands of users, offers a previously unheard-of look at Nigeria’s DNA testing trends.

Astonishing conclusions concerning the causes of testing, the characteristics of those who undergo testing, and the results of those tests were also revealed by the investigation.

In terms of geographic distribution, the research revealed that Lagos accounted for the biggest proportion of tests, with 82.89% of the total.

Following this are FCT (2.63%), Rivers (2.41%), Oyo (3.29%), and Ogun (3.17%).

This high concentration in Lagos, especially the Mainland (68.14%) compared to the Island (31.86%), is probably caused by the fact that Smart DNA’s office is located there.

It said that the state’s high population density and citizens’ high purchasing power were “also probably contributing factors.”

The analysis revealed that ‘Peace of Mind’ tests accounted for 89.10% of all tests, while ‘Immigration’ tests made up 8.97% and ‘Legal’ exams made up 0.64 %.

This indicates that people more frequently want DNA testing to verify their biological links for personal reasons than for legal or immigration concerns.

It revealed that, with 86.44 percent of the first connections initiated by males and 13.56 percent by women, men were the most common contact initiators.

It was stated, “This suggests that men are more likely to have questions about paternity or other relationships and initiate seeking testing.”

Positive test findings showing that the man tested is the child’s biological father made up 73.88 percent of tests, while negative test results made up 26.12 percent.

This shows that while the majority of men who request testing are in fact the child’s biological fathers, the tested father is not the child’s biological father in more than one-fourth of situations.

The Yoruba ethnic group had the highest percentage of exam takers (61.23%), followed by the Igbo (19.07%).

Others (12.08%), followed by Edo (6.78%). This might be a reflection of the racial makeup of Lagos and the neighbouring areas.

Male children received more testing (56.62%) than female children (43.38%) in terms of the sex of the child.

It was stated that this might imply a cultural preference for establishing the paternity of male kids, though additional research would be required to support this theory.

According to an analysis of the age range of those who were examined, the majority of tests were done on kids between the ages of 0 and 5 (58.02%), followed by kids between the ages of 6 and 12 (25.95%).

This suggests that paternity tests are typically administered to kids when they are younger rather than as they get older.

The men who chose to have these DNA tests were primarily between the ages of 31 and 40 (40%) and 41 and 50 (23%), according to the Smart DNA findings.

This age group is more likely to be parents of young children and may have the financial means to pay for the tests.

According to Smart DNA representatives, the facility is dedicated to offering clients completely accredited DNA testing services in compliance with the highest international standards.
