In a recent development, Mohbad’s widow has agreed to a DNA test to verify their son’s paternity. The decision comes amid increased scrutiny surrounding the late singer’s family.
Omowunmi, the widow of singer and rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad, has consented to a DNA test to verify that Liam is their son.
This development follows a lawsuit filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, seeking a DNA test for his grandson.
The legal team for Mohbad’s family, headed by Emmanuel Oroko, encountered difficulties initially when attempting to serve Omowunmi with the required documents.
The Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, heard the case on July 9, 2024. The court recommended trying alternative dispute resolution to help reach an agreement. Despite this suggestion, behind-the-scenes negotiations failed to produce a consensus.
In a statement released on Sunday, Monisola Odumosu, speaking on behalf of the family’s legal team, confirmed that Omowunmi has agreed to undergo the DNA test.
In the statement, Odumosu revealed that Emmanuel Oroko informed the court about an out-of-court settlement between both parties. The terms of this settlement had been filed and served to Wunmi Aloba’s legal team. In agreement, Kabir Akingbolu Esq., accompanied by Adams Atata Esq. and M.K.O Orire Esq., confirmed this arrangement, leading the court to adopt these terms as its judgment.
Odumosu stated that Mohbad’s widow consented to the terms of the settlement, which included conducting a DNA test at either a recognized and accredited government or private medical facility within Lagos State or another mutually accepted hospital outside the state.
The lawyer also mentioned that Mohbad’s father had agreed to cover the expenses for the test procedures and any related fees.
In the legal terms submitted to the court, Wunmi Aloba, identified as the respondent, agreed to undergo DNA testing for herself and her son (Master Liam Aloba) at two recognized and accredited medical facilities—either government or private—in Lagos State or another mutually acceptable hospital outside of Lagos. Meanwhile, Joseph Aloba, named as the applicant in this case, committed to covering all expenses related to these DNA tests. This includes paying for test facility fees; sample collection costs; along with any other linked legal or administrative charges.

“The court additionally mandated that a DNA test be carried out at a laboratory or medical center in Nigeria, chosen by mutual agreement. To guarantee the test’s reliability, the court also appointed certain officers to oversee the testing process,” stated the release.
Meanwhile, the statement indicated that the court ordered both parties to cover their own costs related to this case, with the exception of the expenses for DNA testing, which were undertaken by the applicant.
Mohbad passed away at the age of 27, and the circumstances surrounding his death have ignited controversies on social media.
Mohbad, previously signed to Marlian Music under Naira Marley’s ownership, departed from the label in February 2022. On September 18, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command established a special investigation team of thirteen members to investigate his death.
His death also resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley, along with controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry, among others.
On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
Meanwhile, observers from several countries have expressed concerns about the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, pointing to alleged unfair proceedings and potential evidence suppression.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group expressed their commitment to promoting truth, fairness, equity, and accountability while keeping an eye on the court proceedings in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
The observers voiced concerns about the postponements of the proceedings and other factors they claimed jeopardized justice for Mohbad.
During the cross-examination of Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Adebanjo, observers claimed that lawyers were frequently interrupted and obstructed from obtaining essential information.
