The Omoluabi Progressives, a beleaguered faction inside the All Progressives Congress organisation in Osun State, have urged its followers not to let opponents of progressive ideals divert them.

The caucus made this request and provided an update on its continuing registration on Wednesday in a statement released and signed by Abosede Oluwaseun, the organising and publicity secretary.

Oluwaseun urged additional state residents to set up tents with the party caucus, albeit recognising that the public response has been “encouragingly enormous.”

“The number of good people of Osun and beyond who have trooped en masse to register with the Omoluabi Progressives between Saturday, June 1st, 2024 and Tuesday, June 4th, is encouraging,” he claims.

In an effort to restore Osun’s grandeur and greatness, we extend an invitation to everyone to join the Omoluabi movement and thank those who embarked on this road with us. We also appreciate those who have already joined.

“With the exception of adhering to our core principles and character, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, occupation, economic standing, or any other circumstance related to birth. All ages, all socioeconomic classes, all levels of education, traders, blue-collar workers, landowners, and tenants are welcome.

He also chastised the party’s leadership for allowing the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, to gain power by running the party aground.

We implore our throngs of admirers, followers, and devotees to pay little attention to the vociferous critics of the Progressivism principles established by our political forefathers. In 2018, this same group of inexperienced politicians brought down the progressive party and caused its demise,” he said.

This event occurs one day after the Omoluabi Progressives, led by former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, were repudiated by the APC’s Osun State branch.

Following a broader stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, the Osun APC also stated that members of the Omoluabi Caucus are an unrecognised organisation.

Following the meeting, Tajudeen Lawal, the chairman of the APC in Osun, stated in a statement that the Omoluabi Progressives are not affiliated with the party in the state and that members should not register for their electronic membership.
