The three cops were sacked because they had been assigned to a musician in Kano and had violated police policy by firing rounds into the air with their official rifles.
Due to misuse of weapons, abuse of authority, flagrant disobedience, and waste of live ammunition, the Nigeria Police Force has discharged three officers from SPU Base 1 Kano.
The three, consisting of Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi, were assigned to an entertainer in Kano for escort purposes, according to Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi.
“In the course of their duties on Friday, April 7, 2023 in Kahutu Village, Katsina State, the officers fired shots from their official firearms into the air numerous times, in violation of police policy prohibiting such conduct, standard operating procedure, and applicable Force Orders, as well as disregarding the potential risk to the crowd, which may have included children.
Adejobi said in a statement on Thursday that “the act was not only unlawful and impolite, but also embarrassing to the Force and the country at large.”
The three was put through an orderly room trial by the police after a video of the offenses went viral on social media. They were found guilty of the crimes.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby warmly welcomes all officers to ensure they carry out their jobs in accordance with the current laws to avoid breaking them and incurring associated penalties,” reads the statement. In order to guarantee that their troops are familiar with all relevant standard operating procedures, supervising officers have also been charged with providing constant and thorough lectures to them, the police warned.
