Governor Douye Diri secures victory over Timipre Sylva and the APC in the Bayelsa gubernatorial case, affirming his position.
Senator Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has had his election upheld by the Supreme Court.
On Friday, the highest court ruled to reject Timipre Sylvia’s appeal as the governorship candidate for All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Garba Lawal’s primary ruling stated that Sylvia and the APC’s appeal was not only devoid of substance but also a severe infringement on legal procedures.
The previous ruling made by the Court of Appeal and Election Petition Tribunal was affirmed by a unanimous verdict from the highest court.

On July 18, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Abuja unanimously upheld the decision made by Bayelsa Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. This reinforces Diri’s reelection which had taken place on November 11th ,2023.
The appellate court’s three-judge panel dismissed Timipre Sylva and APC’s appeal to overturn the Tribunal decision in their recent judgment.
On May 27, 2024, the tribunal headed by Justice Adekunle Adeleye ruled that the petition submitted by APC and their candidate against Governor Diri’s reelection lacked merit. Consequently, it was dismissed.
Both Sylva and APC were unable to present any convincing evidence in support of the claims they made regarding the results of the gubernatorial election, according to the tribunal’s ruling.
