Diri expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers, the broader Armed Forces community, and specifically the Army, while strongly denouncing the senseless killings.
In a press statement released by Diri’s chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor highlighted the significance of Bayelsa as the host to various military headquarters, including the joint services Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), the Central Naval Command, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Mobility Command, and the Nigerian Army 16 Brigade.
The governor reiterated the state’s outrage at the tragic attack on the military personnel who are integral members of the communities they serve and the state as a whole.
Diri affirmed the government’s commitment to providing continuous support to the military and other law enforcement agencies in their operations within the state.
He further directed all security commanders in Bayelsa, along with Brig-General Eric Angaye (rtd), the coordinator of the Bayelsa Community Safety Corps, to enhance surveillance and patrol activities along the state’s borders and waterways to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
Labeling the killing of the soldiers as barbaric, satanic, and criminal, Diri called for swift and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He urged the people of Bayelsa, particularly those in the Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, to remain calm as the government is dedicated to safeguarding law-abiding citizens and ensuring their safety.
