Dino Melaye responds to Wike’s mockery of Atiku by citing Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi
Senator Dino Melaye, the presidential campaign spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party, wrote back to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State about what he said about former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s support for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
On January 1st, Obasanjo pleaded with Nigerians in a lengthy letter to support the former governor of Anambra State rather than his former running mate, Atiku Abubakar. In response, the governor of Rivers State said on Monday that Obasanjo’s choice to back Obi instead of Atiku shows “something is very wrong.”
“I prayed that Obasanjo would remain silent. I was moved when I read the letter last night. If your principle won’t suggest you, something is seriously wrong, according to Wike.

Melaye quickly responded and said that the governor of Rivers State had disrespected and talked badly about the former vice president. He said that the only thing wrong with the former vice president was that he beat Wike to the PDP presidential nomination in May 2022.
“Wike should be ashamed of himself for repeatedly attracting Atiku’s attention with his disrespectful and unjustified insults of a man who has done nothing to you.” Melaye noted in a statement that Atiku’s lone transgression was his victory in a transparent presidential primary.
“Wike was Amaechi’s chief of staff, but Amaechi did not trust him enough to give him control,” he continued. I tell him to back anybody he wants to, because we won’t put up with his arrogant behaviour any longer.
“The query is: Is Wike suffering from a problem that Amaechi failed to disclose to him?” Why will Atiku leave him behind for Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Okpara, Sen. Lee Meaba, H.E. Celestine Omehia, Chief Abiye Sikibo, Sen. George Sekibo, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, etc. There is clearly a problem somewhere.
