Diezani was arrested for bribery in a London court
The EFCC welcomed the arraignment and noted with “keen interest” that the charges against the former OPEC president were unrelated to the 13-count charge against him.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reports that Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former minister of petroleum resources, has been charged with bribery and appeared before the Westminister’s Court in London.
The EFCC expressed “keen interest” in the arraignment in a statement released on Monday by Dele Oyewale, acting head of media and publicity.
It is instructive to note that criminality is criminality, irrespective of jurisdictional differences, the anti-graft agency said, despite the fact that the charges brought against her at the London court are diametrically different from the 13-count money laundering charges the EFCC has raised against her.
No criminal may escape punishment. The EFCC is pursuing charges against Madueke for money laundering in Dubai, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Nigeria.
