Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former petroleum minister, is the only Nigerian woman who has succeeded in corruption, according to remarks made on Tuesday by Theophilus Danjuma, the former chief of staff of the Nigerian army.

Speaking in Enugu State at the Goodwill Medical Centre (GMC) opening in Umuchigbo, Iji Nike in the Enugu East Local Government Area, Danjuma claimed Diezani had achieved a record that had not been surpassed.

“Until we had a female minister of petroleum,” he remarked, “I used to say if you want anything done properly and delivered on time without any excuses, give it to a woman.” That woman was quite skilled at corruption. Nobody has been able to break the mark she set.

“As I was going over my statement, I ran across a woman named Prof. Uche Amazigo. We’ve gone a long way, Uche and I. Uche and another Igbo woman named Mrs. Franca Ilamiji met me for the first time in the middle of October 2010.

According to him, Prof. Amazigo restored his faith in women’s continued status as the most reliable individuals to handle public monies responsibly.

Recall that after resigning as a minister in 2015, Diezani has had multiple legal run-ins.

The former minister was reportedly the subject of a recent development in her ongoing trial about an alleged £100,000 bribe offer that was being investigated by British police.
