Diezani accuses the EFCC and AGF of libel and sues them for N100 billion in damages

An ex-minister of petroleum resources named Diezani Allison-Madueke has filed a libel lawsuit against the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to a writ of summons filed on her behalf before the Federal High Court in Abuja by her legal team under the direction of Mike Ozekhome (SAN), she is asking for N100 billion to be paid to her as damages.

On Friday night, Channels Television obtained a copy of the document that ordered the defendants to “pay to the Claimant the sum of N100,000,000,000.00 (100 billion naira) only as damages for the false, injurious, malicious, and libelous publications against the Claimant in the First Defendant’s publishing platform, and at the instance of both the First and the Second Defendants.”

The former minister is also requesting that the EFCC and AGF apologize to her in three national daily in the writ of summons dated May 26, 2023, for what she called “the false, injurious, malicious, and libelous publications” against her since she departed Nigeria in 2015.

The EFCC and the AGF each have 14 days after the serving of the summons to file a defense.
