Unity Advocacy Group (UAG), a civil society organisation (CSO), has denounced the purported attempt by former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode to involve the Nigerian military in politics.

The claim made by the leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, that PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar secretly met with serving military generals in Abuja was evil and distracting, according to the group, which said such a “unfounded story” has the potential to exacerbate the already tense political climate.

Remember that on Saturday, Fani-Kayode implied in a tweet that the alleged meeting might disrupt the polls, destabilise the nation, ignite civil unrest, and ignite a fire in Nigeria.

Ifeanyi Aigbedion, the organization’s convener, stated in a press statement issued by UAG on Saturday that “we as a group are profoundly concerned about the underground conspiracies by some dissatisfied individuals to disrupt our march to a stable democracy.

We are more concerned about initiatives to involve the Nigerian military in politics. This has the power to ignite a fire across the country.

The Armed Forces, led by Gen. LEO Irabor, have subjected themselves to democratic principles and would never join forces with anyone to push the nation backwards, according to attentive observation.

UAG urges lawmakers to let God’s will prevail in the present political process rather than defending anyone or any political party. They must develop their capacity for reciprocity.

As far as we can tell, the military will continue to support the development of our fledgling democracy despite its already active participation in a number of operations aimed at restoring peace. They should not be drawn into politics, and this practise MUST end.
