Edward Buba, the defence spokesperson, who briefed reporters on Thursday in Abuja about the numerous military operations that have taken place across the nation in the previous week.

He said that the attack on Buni’s convoy was intended only as a diversion, claiming that the terrorists’ capacity to carry out large-scale assaults has diminished, forcing them to turn to easy targets.

“The caravan was ambushed at Benishiek while returning to Damaturu. The caravan did not contain the governor.

The defence spokesperson also played down worries expressed by some about the apparent rise in terrorist assaults in the Northeast.
