‘Dey Your Dey’ – Rivers Lawmakers Reject Fubara’s Invitation, State Their Only Condition

Pro-Wike lawmakers in Rivers State have turned down Governor Fubara’s invitation, insisting on a specific condition before any dialogue can take place.

The political turmoil in Rivers State appears likely to continue, as several members of the State House of Assembly have declined an invitation from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

It is recalled that Fubara, through a letter signed by Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, invited lawmakers to a meeting at Port Harcourt’s Government House on Monday.

The Governor extended the invitation after the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate the 27 lawmakers, led by Speaker Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule.

Upon resuming plenary following the apex court ruling, 27 lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the governor demanding that he re-present the 2025 budget.

The governor’s invitation sparked hope that the state’s political crisis, which had lasted nearly two years, might finally come to an end.

However, our correspondent learned that the lawmakers might not attend the invitation scheduled for today.

In a video clip that circulated on Sunday night, Lolo Isaiah Opuende, an assembly member, expressed that it was time for the governor to “dey his dey” (be on his own) while the lawmakers would do likewise.

The legislator from Akuku-Toru Constituency 2 recalled that when the political crisis started, their leader had predicted a time would come for both parties to part ways.

Opuende also raised concerns about how the invitation was communicated, asking Governor Fubara, “How can you send a letter and then post it on social media expecting us to take it seriously? We are not children.”

However, he mentioned that if Fubara wants his invitation to be honored, he “should submit it in the correct manner.”
