Amid reported tensions with Governor Fubara, Wike affirms that the PDP remains united in Rivers State, emphasizing party solidarity.

Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, has addressed the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that in Rivers State, the party remains united.

The former governor of Rivers State mentioned this during a media meeting with selected journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

His comments arise amidst the conflict between him and his former political protégé and predecessor, Siminalayi Fubara.

“The minister emphasized that the PDP remains united in Rivers and urged aggrieved party members to come together.”

“Some individuals have served as governors and faced electoral defeats. The PDP successfully conducted ward and local government congresses without issues.”

After stepping down in May 2023, Wike was appointed as the FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu’s administration under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Last year, Fubara overcame an impeachment attempt by legislators aligned with Wike. Recently, the oil-rich state has been in the spotlight due to ongoing crises.

Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly have been engaged in an ongoing conflict, with pro-Wike legislators overriding the governor on several important bills within the state.

During the show, the minister justified providing judges in the nation’s capital with newly acquired cars and houses.

He asserted that the process adhered to all legal procedures, stating that the project was approved in the 2024 budget and he is merely fulfilling his duty by implementing it.

Tinubu expressed concern about the judges’ living conditions, saying they lack proper homes and are vulnerable to political manipulation. As a president aiming to ensure the judiciary’s independence, he believes it is essential for judges to have secure housing.

I am not the President; I simply feel fortunate to have been appointed as a minister in this administration, tasked with implementing his policies. The President expressed what he wants and encouraged us to collaborate on potential solutions.

“Mr. President approved and included in the 2024 budget a proposal for building quarters for judges and justices. This initiative aims to relocate them from rented homes, where they currently reside among criminals, to designated housing.”

“The 2024 budget, approved by the National Assembly and signed into law by Mr. President, contains a commendable policy under his leadership. What’s the issue here? As someone responsible for its execution, I urge you to proceed with implementation.”

“The Federal Executive Council approved the contract and all related aspects, so it’s not my decision. Why would you blame me for implementing what the Federal Government has sanctioned?” he said.
