DeSantis puts his campaign on hold and throws his weight behind Trump as the Republican nominee
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Sunday that he would be suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.
In a video posted on X, DeSantis explained that after his second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, he did not want to ask his supporters to continue investing their time and resources if there was no clear path to victory.
He acknowledged that a majority of Republican primary voters seemed to favor giving Donald Trump another chance and expressed his endorsement for the former president.
DeSantis also emphasized his differences with Trump, particularly regarding the handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
With the New Hampshire primary approaching, where polls indicated Trump’s strong lead, DeSantis’s decision to withdraw from the race came at a critical time.
