Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member representing Bende federal constituency of Abia State, has announced that the house will engage in a debate regarding the recent increase in electricity tariffs.
This decision comes after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved a significant hike in the price of electricity for Band A customers, resulting in a 300% increase for urban areas with 20 hours of power supply.
The approval has sparked widespread concern and outcry, with many fearing that it will further exacerbate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.
Kalu, speaking on a radio program, emphasized the parliament’s commitment to addressing the issue and finding a win-win solution that considers the interests of both investors and the Nigerian people.
