Demolition of buildings that do not pass integrity test in Lagos- Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Government has once again emphasized its commitment to demolishing structures that do not pass its integrity assessment.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this statement following the collapse of 14 buildings near the two that caught fire at Dosunmu Market on Lagos Island.

Sanwo-Olu expressed concern over the transformation of residential apartments into warehouses and warned that more buildings are at risk of being demolished.

He mentioned that the recent incident was preventable and highlighted the challenges faced by first responders due to delayed access.

The Governor stressed the need for strict adherence to construction regulations and vowed to take down any property that poses a threat to lives and the environment.

He also announced the indefinite closure of Dosunmu Market but assured support for affected traders to recover from the incident.

Sanwo-Olu condemned the carelessness that led to the fire outbreak and emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety measures to avoid such disasters in the future.
