The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly is confirmed among the survivors of a recent boat mishap in the state, according to his press secretary.
Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has been recognized as one of the survivors in Tuesday’s boat accident in Delta State, which resulted in five fatalities.
In a statement on Wednesday, Nkem Nwaeke, the Chief Press Secretary for Guwor, mentioned that the speaker is still recovering from the shock.
The statement mentioned that the speaker was heading back to Asaba, on the way to Warri, after meeting with constituents on that memorable Friday afternoon.
Five people were reported dead, six injured, and twenty still missing following the devastating boat accident in Warri South Local Government Area of the state.
The speaker is profoundly saddened by the tragic boat accident that occurred over the weekend on Bennett Island River in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, an incident he was involved in but survived miraculously.
Tragically, the incident resulted in the loss of five valuable lives.
Mr. Speaker was returning to Asaba, on his way to Warri after meeting with constituents on the afternoon of Friday, November 22, 2024. During this journey, the boat he was traveling in nearly collided head-on with another vessel, leading to the deaths of five people and injuring several others.
He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have passed away and prays for God to grant them the strength needed to endure these irreplaceable losses.
Mr. Speaker remains deeply shocked by the incident and can only begin to fathom the pain and grief that the victims’ families are enduring.
He expresses gratitude to God for saving his life and that of the other survivors. He is also thankful for the swift response from the rescue team and medical staff who cared for them.
The Speaker has requested that the appropriate authorities carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident’s cause, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“The statement expressed that Mr. Speaker once again extends his condolences to the families of the victims and prays for the repose of their souls.”
