A school building collapse in Delta State has claimed the life of a pupil and left three others injured. Learn more about the tragic event and the response from authorities.
The parents of Ojiyovwin Salvation, a Primary 2 student, are mourning the tragic and premature passing of their son at Eghereka Primary School in Ewu town, located in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Salvation tragically lost his life yesterday when a six-classroom block collapsed, injuring him fatally and wounding three others.
Reports indicate that the rundown building gave way due to the heavy rain.
The block of six roofless classrooms was reportedly unused, and prompt efforts ensured the rescue of the other students.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his condolences to the family of the student who passed away.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, expressed sympathy and described the incident as extremely unfortunate.
“We have been informed about an unfortunate incident. The Governor extends his condolences to the family of the deceased student, and offers support to the school’s management, staff, as well as other students injured in this tragic event,” he stated.
Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude for the prompt efforts that resulted in the swift rescue of injured pupils. He noted that Dr. Lucky Avweromre, the Local Government Council Chairman, has examined the scene to offer essential support to surviving victims of the building collapse and visited the family of the deceased pupil as well.
He expressed that words could not fully comfort the grieving family in their time of sorrow and prayed for God Almighty to give strength to the families, school, and community as they cope with this irreparable loss. He also hoped that God’s comforting presence would support them during these difficult times.
