Delta Police engage in gun duel with suspected kidnapper, resulting in death

A gunfight between his gang and the police is said to have resulted in the death of a suspected kidnapper.

It has been stated that further criminal gang members fled the scene of the crime.

According to reports, the suspect passed away at a hospital from wounds he received during the gunfight.

Two Beretta pistols and five rounds of live ammo were found on the suspect by the police, under the command of ASP Julius Robinson.

The incident happened on June 20, 2024, at roughly 23:47 hours along the Edje Kota-Ogor Communities axis in Delta State’s Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The report was verified by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a signed statement provided to Our Correspondent in Warri.

“ASP Julius Robison and team on CPS’s special assignment in a sting operation stormed a criminal hideout along Ughelli – Patani road by an abandoned filling station. The hoodlums on sighting the Police opened fire on the team which was given a superior response by the police. In the ensuing gun duel, one of the hoodlums sustained serious gunshot injuries while others escaped,” the Police Image maker said. “Acting on Credible Intelligence related to incessant cases of armed robbery/kidnapping along Edjekota – Ogor Communities axis of Ughelli North LGA of Delta State.”

“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” stated SP Edafe.

He also mentioned the ongoing manhunt for the individuals who are escaping.
