The Delta State Police Command has taken out two alleged kidnappers and found a variety of weapons on them.
DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman, revealed this to reporters on Tuesday in Warri.
Edafe claimed that the police patrol unit affiliated with the “B division,” Warri, neutralised the criminals on Sunday.
According to him, the incident took place in the area around Upper Erejuwa Street in the state’s Warri South Local Government Area.
According to Edafe, the deceased were previously detained by the police patrol team on Saturday as they were on nighttime surveillance patrol duty at the Okumagba Estate Roundabout in Warri South.
“On December 24, 2022, the police patrol squad stopped a tricycle that had two male passengers inside and searched them.
Three live cartridges that were hidden behind the tricycle’s seat were discovered during the search, the officer reported.
According to Edafe, the suspects were caught, and when they were questioned, they said they were part of a five-person kidnapping gang that worked in Warri and the area around it.

According to the statement, “Acting on their confessions, the suspects led the police operatives to their hiding at a residence located at Upper Erejuwa Street on Dec. 25, where one locally-made double-barreled long gun, one AK-49 rifle with Breach Number: 11876, and two machetes were discovered.”
The two suspects tried to flee from the moving police helicopter while on their way back to the police station, the command’s spokesman said, adding that the police pursued them.
“The operatives injured them and then re-arrested them in an effort to demobilise them.” He claimed that the suspects died while being transported to the hospital.
The other gang members who are running away are being sought, according to Edafe.
