According to Delta Govt, there was no fatality in the incident at Asaba Sports Complex.
On Thursday, the Delta Government said that there had been no reported fatalities in the incident that had taken place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba indoor sports complex building site.
Mr Charles Aniagwu, the state commissioner for information, denied rumours that the disaster was caused by poor materials in a live video from the scene of the tragedy.
He asserted that the heavy machinery crashed into a wall on one of the levels as a result of the crane’s operator misaligning the crane.
Contrary to allegations that there were fatalities, he claims that just one person had a minor injury and has since received treatment, and additional workers have also returned to the scene.
He said the contractor had promised to repair the wall within 48 hours.
“The Stephen Keshi Stadium’s indoor sports hall building site is directly behind me.
When attempting to carry some extremely heavy industrial equipment up a certain floor, the crane operator failed to correctly position the lift, which caused it to fall on the wall and cause a piece of the wall to crash.
“One individual received a minor injury, was treated for it and is already back at work. The labourers are present in large numbers, and we are moving quickly.
“The unsubstantiated allegations of fatalities are not real, and anyone claiming the Stephen Keshi Stadium has collapsed is likewise spreading false information,” the statement reads.
In reality, some renovations are being done to the stadium in time for the National Sports Festival.
The contractor promised to fix the portion of the wall that fell because of the crane’s misalignment in less than 48 hours, he claimed.
He asked the public to disregard any reports claiming fatalities as a result of the small mishap at the building site.
