Political activist Dele Farotimi has been granted release after meeting the necessary bail conditions. His freedom comes amidst growing support and attention to his case.

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been released after fulfilling his bail conditions.

The development was revealed by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore.

Earlier in the month, he was arrested for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

Under heavy security, Farotimi arrived at the Magistrate Court premises in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, around 9:45 am on Friday after being held in a correctional center.

Sowore posted on X that the activist lawyer, who was facing difficulties, is no longer in the prison yards of Ekiti State.

He expressed his pleasure in announcing that Dele Farotimi has been released from the prison yards in Ekiti state and is on his way back home to Lagos. The struggle continues!

Recently, a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti approved Farotimi’s release on bail set at N30 million. The conditions included two sureties – one being a property owner, the submission of Farotimi’s passport, and a restriction preventing him from giving media interviews upon his release.

Chii Odinakalu, a lawyer and activist, confirmed the release of Dele Farotimi on X. He stated: “In Ekiti, @DeleFarotimi has successfully secured bail and regained his freedom. He’s now headed back to Lagos. We urge all advocates for justice who have remained watchful during this time to continue their vigilance. This is neither the end nor the beginning of the end—it is an #AttritionMarathon.”

This development follows a promise made last week by Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and politician, to assist in fulfilling Farotimi’s bail conditions.

After his release, Farotimi reaffirmed to his supporters his dedication to truth in the pursuit of justice.

Since his arrest and prosecution, his loyalists and supporters have been protesting, claiming it to be an act of illegality and injustice.
