For disparagingly using her name and picture in secular music audio and video, gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has threatened to sue musician Obidiz for N2 billion.

Remember that on February 10, 2023, Obidiz launched a promo for the song “Mercy Chinwo,” including a photo of the gospel singer as the album’s cover.

In a letter dated March 23 and written to Obidiz Lawson, Minstrel Mercy Chinwo, through her attorney Pelumi Olajengbesi, demanded that the secular musician remove the song’s audio and video from all music digital platforms.

“It came to our client’s great amazement that you just created and distributed a song named ‘Mercy Chinwo, which contains insulting and disrespectful lyrics,” the letter stated, among other things.

It continued, “That you remove, or cause to be removed, the song you published called “Mercy Chinwo” from all music streaming services right away, including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, and any other site via which you made such publication.”

The gospel singer’s legal representatives commanded Obidiz to comply with their client’s requests immediately, warning that “the full machinery of the law will be set in motion against you, including approaching the Court of Law to award damages against you to the tune of N2,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) in a favour of our client,” in the event of a failure to do so.
