Death by Hanging: Two Convicted for Murder, Armed Robbery

Following their conviction for murder and armed robbery, two individuals have been sentenced to death by hanging.

In separate rulings, Justice F.O Enenmo oversaw the convictions of two individuals for murder and armed robbery. Additionally, a woman was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment with hard labor for her involvement in a murder case within Delta High Court’s Kwale Judicial Division.

Izagwu Obodo was convicted by Justice Enenmo in case (HCK/13C/2021) for fatally shooting Nonso Dibia on 21/8/2021 in Umu-Itchi Community.

The defendant chose not to call any witnesses, while the prosecution team of C. O. Onoberhie-Oberuomo presented three witnesses and submitted numerous exhibits as evidence during the trial proceedings.

Justice Enenmo declared the defendant responsible and condemned him to death through hanging in his ruling.

Mr. Bright Ossai was found guilty of armed robbery, specifically stealing Hyacinth Abandi’s Daystar motorcycle at gunpoint on Owessi Street in Kwale, Ndokwa West LGA and sentenced to death by Justice Enenmo.

The prosecution alleges that the perpetrator was apprehended on site when the victim called for help. Law enforcement personnel responded and successfully saved the victim while also retrieving the firearm from the burglar.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Bright Ossai had committed armed robbery and subsequently sold another motorcycle to Mr. Ebele Pius in Ossissa of Ndokwa East LGA; a vehicle which was later retrieved by law enforcement officials.

The defendant testified without calling any witness, while two witnesses gave testimony.

Bright Ossai, the first defendant, received a death penalty through hanging. Meanwhile, Mr Ebele Pius was given two options: either serve 10 years in prison with hard labor or pay a hefty fine amounting to N500 million.

Further, regarding the matter denoted (HCK/57C/2022) involving State and Egoyibo Ugbomem, Justice Enenmo issued a 21-year prison sentence to Egoyibo Ugbomen for his involvement in the murder of Chukwemeka Nkere on August 29th, 2021.

Egoyibo claimed at the Aboh Police station that the deceased had hung himself from a ceiling, however, an autopsy revealed evidence of a blunt force injury on their chest wall.

Three witnesses were called by the prosecution, whereas two witnesses were called by the 1st defendant (Egoyibo Ugbomen) to testify.

She was found guilty by Justice Enenmo and handed a 21-year prison term with hard labor.

He determined that the duration in which the prisoner was held in detention throughout their trial should be taken into account.
