Deadly mass shooting suspect is discovered
The shooter reportedly killed himself after police caught him.
The SWAT team searched the suspect’s van and found him dead from what looked like a self-inflicted gunshot. This ended the search for the only suspect in a fatal shooting in Monterey Park and an attempted attack in Alhambra, California, on Sunday.
Authorities have named the shooter as Huu Can Tran, 72, but are still unaware of what motivated him to kill ten people and injure at least ten more during the Chinese New Year festivities.
“What was the shooter’s motivation? is still a question in my mind. He was mentally ill, wasn’t he? Was he a perpetrator of domestic violence? Robert Luna, the sheriff of Los Angeles County, spoke with the media on Sunday.

In the primarily Asian American neighbourhood of Monterey Park, the tragedy occurred on Saturday night as tens of thousands of people gathered for California’s largest two-day celebration.
Five ladies and five men were killed, and ten additional persons, all of whom were said to be in their fifties or older, were injured when the suspect opened fire inside the Star Ballroom Dance Studio at around 10:20 p.m.
Less than 30 minutes after leaving the scene, the shooter tried to enter the Lai Lai Ballroom in the nearby Alhambra neighborhood. Fortunately, the customers managed to disarm him without any injuries, but the attacker was able to flee once more, setting off an hour-long manhunt for the police.
The suspect’s white van was finally discovered 30 miles away in Torrance around 10.30 a.m. on Sunday. But by the time a SWAT squad arrived, a single gunshot was reportedly heard coming from the car by law enforcement officers there. Tran’s body was discovered inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff reported.
