Oladapo Oyebanji, also known as D’banj, is a prominent Nigerian singer who has urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive inquiry while admonishing the public to avoid falling victim to media hype.
He bemoaned the media’s glut of stories about his being held by the ICPC due to unproven fraud claims.
He asserted that it is now essential to issue a statement in order to provide clarification and correct misinformation.
This information was included in a statement released on Wednesday by Maryam El-Yakub Musa, D’banj’s legal counsel.
Remember that the ICPC verified D’Banj’s arrest and imprisonment on Wednesday in connection with the investigation of fraud involving the N-Power Program.
D’banj asserted, however, that he had no formal or informal relationships of any kind with any individuals or organizations inside or outside the Government.
The following quote from the statement was included: “It is instructive to state first that the report regarding the arrest and detention of Mr. Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo is misconceived, malicious, and prejudicial to the justice system anywhere in the world, and we would advise the general public to be well-informed.
“For the record, D’banj has no such contractual or incidental relationship with any organization or anyone within or outside the Government regarding the distribution, operations, access, or control of the operation of any Government fund through an Agency or its Subsidiaries.
“D’banj has asked the Commission to conduct its investigation completely to ensure that anybody trying to implicate him in such absurd activities must be held accountable.
