Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, joined other notable figures to bid Caroline Jegede farewell on Saturday.
The late Caroline Jegede, mother of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, a PDP leader in the state, passed away at the age of 96.
The burial service was held in the Cathedral of St. David, Ijomu, Akure, the capital of the state, and was attended by Governor Akeredolu and other dignitaries, including Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, a former governor of the state.
Akeredolu has not appeared in public since the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Akure about two weeks ago, following a story about his ailing health.
Many people in the state expressed concerns about Akeredolu’s capacity to run the Sunshine State effectively after hearing about the governor’s concealed illness.

The Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, and other members of the State Executive Council (SEC) were also present during the funeral.
Late Jegede was a woman of substance who led a fulfilled life, according to Governor Akeredolu.
Simeon Borokini, Bishop of the Akure Anglican Diocese and Archbishop of the Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, addressed the topic of “Victory Assured” in his sermon.
He characterised Governor Akeredolu as a politician who plays the game without malice.
We are convinced that political parties can no longer separate us in Ondo State based on what we are seeing here today.
“You are familiar with the party of our governor and Eyitayo Jegede. Additionally, you will recall that they both ran for governor twice. We are aware of the tranquilly that exists in Ondo State. Politics won’t split us apart. The cleric declared, “We are rewriting history.”
