Students at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, have been urged not to use drugs by the Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata.
This was said in a statement released on Friday in Kano by Malam Sunusi Kofar Na’Isa, the director of information for the Ministry of Higher Education.
As part of his familiarisation tour of state-owned tertiary institutions, Kofarmata provided the advice during a meeting with stakeholders in the university’s theatre hall.
Insisting that the institution’s student union act as ambassadors in launching a significant awareness campaign against the problem, he emphasised that drug usage was a serious social sin that destroys human life.
The State Government, he said, will not spare any student caught selling or taking narcotics in any of the state-run institutions.
Kofarmata added that a sports committee would soon be established by the state government to oversee the planning of sporting events inside of state-run institutions in order to improve other curriculum activities.
Prof. Musa Yakasai, vice chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and said it was well-deserved.
He said that the university faces many difficulties, including obligations exceeding N2.5 billion and personnel pensions that were left over from the former government.
For the sake of the institution’s growth and the state’s education system as a whole, he pleaded with the commissioner to take action. (NAN)
