In response to IPMAN’s concerns, Dangote Refinery clarifies there are no challenges in lifting petrol, assuring steady fuel distribution. Learn more about the refinery’s statement.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery stated that it is inaccurate to claim the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) is having trouble loading refined products from its facility.
The company’s statement, issued by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer Anthony Chiejina on Thursday, addressed a claim made by IPMAN the previous day. According to this claim, IPMAN members are unable to load petrol from the Dangote Refinery in Lagos despite having already paid ₦40 billion to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
IPMAN President Abubakar Garima, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, expressed his astonishment that Aliko Dangote, owner of the $20 billion refinery, claimed marketers were avoiding his refinery in favor of purchasing imported petrol.
The Dangote Refinery clarified in a statement that it has not received any payments from IPMAN for the purchase of refined petroleum products.
The statement clarified that while discussions with IPMAN are ongoing, it’s misleading to claim that their members face difficulties loading refined products from our petroleum refinery, as we currently have no direct business interactions with them.
As a result, the company stated that it cannot be held liable for any payments made to other entities since the payment in question was processed through NNPCL and not Dangote Refinery.

It also mentioned that similarly, NNPCL has not approved or authorized the company to distribute our Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to IPMAN.
Highlighting its capability to fulfill Nigeria’s entire demand for petroleum products, Dangote Refinery recommended that IPMAN register directly with the company and arrange payments for these products.
We want to highlight our capability to fulfill the country’s demand for petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. Currently, we are able to load 2,900 trucks daily and have also been transporting petroleum products by sea. We encourage IPMAN members to register with us and make direct payments as we possess ample supplies of these products to meet their needs effectively.
Additionally, we urge all stakeholders to avoid making unfounded statements in the media. Such actions could undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic re-engineering efforts. Engaging in public speculation is both counterproductive and unpatriotic.
“In the best interest of our nation, we urge all parties to work together and follow President Tinubu’s guidance, fostering unity instead of participating in media disputes or spreading unnecessary propaganda,” stated the announcement.
