Dangote refinery receives another batch of crude oil barrels
The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited delivered its fourth shipment of one million barrels of bonny light crude oil to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Monday.
The $20 billion corporation announced that the fifth crude oil cargo is expected to arrive soon. The refinery had previously received three shipments of crude oil and is set to begin producing refined Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and aviation fuel (JetA1) this month.
The Dangote facility is anticipating a total of six million barrels of crude oil, with the remaining two million expected to be delivered by January 2024. Once all six million barrels are received, the refinery will commence production of diesel, aviation fuel, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and eventually Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery can meet Nigeria’s entire demand for refined petroleum products and even has a surplus for export. The refinery also boasts a self-sufficient marine facility capable of handling the largest vessels in the world for crude oil shipments.
Upon receiving the initial shipment of crude, Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, expressed his satisfaction by stating, “We are pleased to have reached this significant milestone, which serves as a testament to our country’s capability in executing and delivering major capital projects.
Our primary objective in the upcoming months is to enhance the refinery’s productivity to its maximum capacity. I eagerly anticipate the next noteworthy achievement, which will be the successful delivery of the first batch of products to the Nigerian market.”
