Officially, popular reggaeton artist Ramón Ayala, often known as Daddy Yankee, has stepped away from music.

On the last day of his farewell tour, La Meta, in Puerto Rico this past weekend, the rapper and singer from Puerto Rico made this announcement live on stage.

He declared that his current goals are to “evangelise the world” and follow Jesus.

“The King Of Reggaeton” said in a video statement posted on his Instagram page that he felt empty in some way and had been looking for someone to fill the hole in his life for a while.

“I was able to travel the world for years winning many awards, applause and praise, but I realised something that the Bible says, ‘what good is it for a man to gain the whole world if he forfeits his soul?’” the crooner of “Despacito” said in his message, quoted from a Bible scripture.

“One story is over and a new story is going to begin, a new beginning,” the speaker continued.

Daddy Yankee, who started his career in 1994, is recognised as one of the reggaeton genre’s forefathers.

At 46 years old, he retired.
