controversial media figure Daddy Freeze, as Ifedayo Olarinde, has shared his story of going through a difficult time because he spoke out against tithing.

He claimed that the clamour over his tithing position made him fear for his life.

He emphasised that he is still on the blacklist in the media and entertainment sector and claimed that the backlash wasn’t “spiritual” but that it was the reason he fell into poverty.

In a recent podcast conversation with actress Iyabo Ojo, he revealed more.

“When I started going against tithe, there was not a single Nigerian pastor that didn’t respond,” Daddy Freeze stated. I just visited them and read them from the Bible. In Deuteronomy 14:22, it states, “Eat your tithe by yourself.” I perused it. In verse 26, it was stated that if the location that the Lord, your God, has designated for you to pay your tithe is too far away, you should sell it and use the proceeds to purchase wine, beer, or anything else you desire when you arrive to the Lord’s house to celebrate.

“I answered, ‘So our tithe is to purchase beer and Hennessy in the Lord’s house? They all replied when I mentioned any GO [General Overseer] and cited it as the bible. I used to look up to a top GO who remarked, “There’s this guy on the internet who said you shouldn’t pay your tithe.” I exclaimed, “Wow!” What do you think? “Look at this, they said we should not pay tithe and they’re quoting the bible,” their members claimed, showing them the video. I knew then that the church is a business.

“I felt scared. I believed I was going to pass away. I believed I would go bankrupt. Well, I did become bankrupt, but it wasn’t a spiritual thing. My entire revenue stream was locked by the pastors, as they made calls. When I would show up for a job, they would say, “Up to this point, they’re still doing it.”

He went on to say that in spite of all the curses certain clerics had placed on him, he never died or became ill.

“The bible does not support the tithe system that Nigeria runs,” asserted Daddy Freeze.
