Terry Apala, a Nigerian singer, has shared his story of his father leaving him and his brothers with their mother.
He emphasised that his father was not a part of his life and that he had only returned 17 years after leaving them, dying in their home on the same day he paid them a visit.
This was revealed by the Apala crooner in an open conversation with media figure Chude Jideonwo.

“My dad was not there [for me],” he remarked. He wasn’t present. He was simply going about his daily business. I don’t even have a relationship with him.
“My dad was dying the day I visited him after I left him in 1990. He travelled from Apapa all the way to our Mushin home. He was robust and well. When he inquired about my mother, I informed him she wasn’t present. When I notified my mother that my dad was nearby, she advised me to urge him to leave. I informed my father what my mother had said, but he refused to listen to me until she returned. My other siblings were unable to return home that evening after learning he was around.
It was only my father, myself, and Obi, our eldest child. Together, we slept. Together with my younger brother, he shared the bed. I believe that when I woke up, he was vomiting. It was quite moving. Although I didn’t feel particularly sorry for this man’s absence, you know, you kind of feel sorry for people who pass away. I last saw my dad on that particular day, then. from the mortuary to our home.
“I believe he was aware of his impending death because, after being absent for approximately 15 to 17 years, he suddenly showed up at our house, rested, and then proceeded straight to the mortuary.”
