At a checkpoint in Garki Local Government, Jigawa State, a member of the Nigerian Customs Service opened fire on a fellow employee.
On Friday, the incident apparently took place when a car leaving the Niger Republic allegedly refused to halt at the customs post.
A checkpoint employee started firing at the moving car after developing suspicions.
They eventually determined that the individual in the car was a colleague working at the Lagos State Command named SC Muhammad Sayyadi.
He is the son of Emir of Ringim, HRH Dr Sayyadi Abubakar Mahmud, one of Jigawa’s top five emirs.
In a statement sent to Obasanjonews24, SC Nura Saidu, spokesman for the Nigeria Customs Service Kano/Jigawa Area Command, confirmed the occurrence.
He stated, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragic event, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the victim’s family and friends.”
According to Saidu, the command is looking into the event to identify its reasons.
Obasanjonews24 discovered that further casualties were brought to Kano’s Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and are responding to care.
