CUPP Criticizes Tinubu Over Hardship, Says He’s Out of Touch

David Akinyemi

The CUPP has accused President Tinubu of losing touch with the harsh realities Nigerians are facing due to ongoing economic hardship.

CUPP expressed skepticism about President Bola Tinubu’s awareness of the prevailing situation in the nation.

The political group observed that the President’s language frequently emphasized caution and selflessness, but his behavior conveyed a contradictory message.

In a signed statement by its National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, CUPP highlighted the President’s lavish motorcade while on a trip to Lagos.

The statement pointed out an alarming pattern wherein those supporting Tinubu are unwilling to accept any misdeeds, irrespective of their severity.

Tinubu’s call for austerity was met with controversy over his 200-plus vehicle convoy. Had his supporters raised concerns about the optics of such extravagance, he may have refrained from including SUVs in the inaugural budget for the First Lady.

The intention behind this action appears to be the validation of his position and illustrates his attitude towards federal assets. It is pertinent to mention that in case the First Lady needed an SUV, multiple governmental organizations could have effortlessly furnished one.

It appears that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is disconnected from the difficult circumstances that an estimated 80% of his constituents endure. His frequent pleas for “reforms” and making “tough decisions” come across as empty rhetoric since he doesn’t display a readiness to personally make sacrifices. Setting a good example through leadership is essential, particularly when requesting citizens to assume considerable burdens due to challenging choices.

The President needs to establish a connection with the day-to-day challenges faced by his people and prove that he is dedicated to easing the weight of reform.

Throughout President Tinubu’s tenure, there has been a continued emphasis on the necessity for “reforms” and making tough calls. Yet, when compared to his own disconnection from the struggles experienced by most citizens, this language appears insincere.

Tinubu’s leadership and reforms lose their legitimacy due to his apparent lack of awareness about the daily hardships faced by citizens.

If a leader demands sacrifices from their followers, it is crucial that they exhibit comparable dedication. Nonetheless, Tinubu’s conduct implies an unwillingness to partake in the struggle for reform. This disparity between his verbal declarations and tangible efforts undermines public confidence and reinforces disillusionment throughout society.

A large number of Nigerians encounter notable obstacles in their day-to-day existence, spanning from financial adversity to vulnerability and infrastructure insufficiencies. They anticipate that their leader comprehends these adversities and endeavours tirelessly towards resolving them. However, Tinubu’s disconnection proposes that his emphasis is more on executing his plans than genuinely enhancing the livelihoods of the people he governs.

To be an effective leader, one must possess empathy, compassion and a receptive ear. Tinubu’s incapability to exhibit these traits raises doubts on his capability in leading Nigeria towards progress. In tackling the country’s intricate issues lies the need for a President firmly grounded in reality rather than someone isolated from it.

According to him, Tinubu should acknowledge the importance of engaging with his constituents and demonstrate a willingness to cooperate in implementing reform measures. This is essential if he intends to gain their confidence and secure sufficient backing for effecting substantial improvements in Nigeria.
