President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come under fire from the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), which claims that he is doing little to nothing to address the hunger problems that Nigerians face.

The Coalition questioned why Nigerians would suddenly sacrifice themselves as burnt offerings while government officials lived in luxury, citing the President’s deployment of what it called incompetent government programmes that had all failed, in a statement released by Chief Peter Ameh, the Coalition’s national secretary.

The Coalition added that a significant factor in the nation’s hunger was the government’s incapacity to protect the nation’s crops and farmers.

Our leaders’ lavish lifestyles are to blame for the mess we find ourselves in; they have the wrong priorities and have steadfastly refused to act in the best interests of the people.

Instead, they would rather waste money on pointless projects that demand large sums of money up front but never pay off or do anything worthwhile, such as the President’s proposed new private jet.

“This amount of money ought to have gone towards the creation of initiatives that will improve citizens’ lives in the long run,” Ameh stated in the statement.

“The cost associated with running government in Nigeria is far higher than most countries in the same economy bracket,” he continued, “despite the President and his Vice spending over N8.64 billion on travel expenses within the last three months while he continues to give speeches and false promises about plans to cut public spending.”

“The endemic poverty in Nigeria is largely caused by the wasteful spending of those elected to oversee the affairs of running our government. The president should be concerned about the plight of the suffering masses and make every effort to ensure that the situation improves for those affected, which is everyone, by the way.
