The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Nasarawa State Command has detained 27 people in Lafia, the state capital, on suspicion of being involved in cult-related activities.
Concerns about the rise in cult-related violence in different sections of the state were growing, and this was the reason behind the arrests.

The information was revealed by Mr. Bappa Abbas Muhammed, the Commandant of the NSCDC in Nasarawa, at a news conference where the suspected cultists were displayed.
Muhammad went on to say that one person died in the recent incidents, while another person was injured and receiving medical attention at the moment.
While voicing his displeasure with the NSCDC’s ubiquity of cult-related activities, Muhammad said that the agency has launched a new plan to combat the problem in all 13 of the state’s local government districts, with a special emphasis on Lafia.
“Those who are arrested will face charges in court as part of the Command’s commitment to combating cultism in the affected areas,” Muhammad said.
