Tuesday, the Cross River State Police Command said that there had been a gunshot on the University of Cross River campus.
It occurred on Monday, according to SP Irene Ugbo, the command’s spokesperson, who verified the occurrence.
A final-year student of the university was shot during the event, and he is currently receiving medical care at an unidentified facility in Calabar, according to Ugbo.
She explained that the gunshot was tied to cult activities taking place on campus and said that the police were attempting to identify and arrest individuals responsible for the altercation.
Contrary to popular belief, the student who was shot during the event is still alive, according to Ugbo.
“We are keeping an eye on him at an unknown location, and he has also given us some helpful information.
“The victim is also a member of a cult, and you are aware of the police’s stance on the subject.
We abhor mob activity and will not let anyone to sow fear or disturb the quiet in the city and the state as a whole,” she declared.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria’s inquiries, the victim was shot in the leg after a cult gang broke into the institution.
NAN learned that the victim was being eliminated because he allegedly refused to give up a certain position in his fraternity (Black Axe).
But once the police command’s Anti-cultism and Kidnapping Squad swiftly reacted to a distress call, they managed to free him.
NAN further reports that on the previous Tuesday, university students demonstrated against the degree of security, particularly robbery, on campus.
The demonstration that resulted in the school gate being blocked lasted for two days.
Since then, the school had returned to normal, although with a strong security presence on its grounds.
