Covenant University Leads Nigerian Institutions in 2024 World Varsities Rankings

Covenant University (CU) has been ranked as Nigeria’s top university in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 Rankings.

The Times Higher Education World Rankings is an annual, comprehensive global assessment of universities.

The rankings for 2024 feature 1,907 universities from 108 countries and regions.

Covenant University, Nigeria’s top-ranked institution on the 2024 list, was placed within the global scale of 801-1000 alongside the University of Ibadan (UI).

The ratings were determined using 18 meticulously calibrated performance indicators, which evaluate an institution’s performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

This year’s ranking evaluated over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and incorporated survey responses from 68,402 scholars worldwide.

The University of Oxford maintains its top position for the eighth consecutive year, while other institutions in the top five have experienced changes. Stanford University ascends to second place, causing Harvard University to drop to fourth.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has risen two spots to secure third place this year. Meanwhile, the University of Cambridge has fallen to fifth position after sharing third place last year.
