The All Progressives Congress, APC, filed a petition to overturn the election of Muhammad Kabiru Yayannan, a PDP member representing Birnin Kudu seat, but the Jigawa State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, located in Dutse, dismissed it.
The PDP candidate was confirmed as the validly elected representative of the Birnin Kudu seat on Monday, and the three-member panel, presided over by Justice Agada Okeke, unanimously dismissed the APC’s petition.
Prior to this, Kantoga had requested that the tribunal revoke Yayannan’s Certificate of Return and recognise him as the election’s victor on March 18.

The petitioners claimed that the PDP candidate was unable to run for office and that the election did not follow the rules set forth in the Electoral Act of 2022.
Judge Agada dismissed the petition due to lack of merit, stating that the petitioners had not provided evidence to support their allegations of wrongdoing.
Laminu Bala, the defendant’s attorney, conveyed happiness with the tribunal ruling.
Abdurrahman Muktar, the petitioner’s attorney, stated that they would review the ruling before determining how to proceed.
