Court sets new date for trial of boyfriend in Uniport student murder

The murder trial of Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, has been postponed by the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt.

The trial, which involves the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level student of Biochemistry at the same university, will now resume on June 7th, 21st, and 27th, 2024.

Damian Okoligwe was apprehended and publicly displayed by the Rivers State Police Command in 2023 after being accused of attempting to dispose of Otuene’s remains, which were discovered in his residence.

During the recent court session, the prosecution counsel, O.C. Mbaba, requested permission to modify the information presented to the court. This request was granted by Justice Chinwe Nsirim, the presiding judge.

As a result, the trial was adjourned to June 7th, 21st, and 27th, 2024, to allow the prosecution counsel to make the necessary amendments and proceed with the full trial.
