On Tuesday, a sexual offences and domestic violence court in Ikeja sentenced Olamide Ayodele, a 27-year-old electrician, to life in prison.

for defiling the man’s 8-year-old daughter, who provided him with shelter.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the offender was 25 years old when he committed the crime.

Justice Abiola Soladoye says that the accusation of defilement against the defendant has been proven by the prosecution.

Soladoye says that the court decided that the witnesses for the prosecution were reliable and consistent.

She declared, “Considering that the survivor’s father took him up from the streets and treated him like one of his children, the defendant is immoral, a giant liar, ungrateful, rude, merciless, and hasty in his conduct.”

The court took special note of the defense’s fruitless attempts to link the victim’s sibling to the crime.

“The defense’s attempt to deceive the court by claiming that the survivor’s brother’s testimony was suppressed when it was not. This was a wholly inaccurate depiction of the court’s documents.

Lastly, the defendant’s testimony was made up and not reliable because he was trying so hard to get away from the crime he was accused of.

“I am confident that the prosecution has established the defendant’s involvement in defilement.”

The defendant is given a life sentence after being found guilty of all charges.

The judge said that the convict’s name should be added to the list of sexual offenders kept by the state of Lagos.

The defendant committed the offence on January 19, 2020, at or around 3 p.m. on Ofini Street, Ijaiye, Meiran in Lagos, according to the state’s attorneys, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke and Ms. Abimbola Abolade, who testified in court.

According to the prosecution’s case, the defendant entered the room where the victim was resting in the afternoon, covered her mouth with a cloth, defiled her, and then left the house to watch football in a watching centre.

The prosecution says that the survivor’s grandmother went into the room, saw her lying in a pool of blood, and called the police after reporting the incident.

According to NAN, the defendant served as the only witness for the defence during the trial, while the prosecution presented five witnesses.

The crime violates Section 137 of the 2015 Criminal Law.
