Ibadan’s Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court said on Monday that two men accused of kidnapping should stay in jail.
Abolaji Abdulazeez, also known as BJ, and Adewale Abolarinwa, also known as Oro, are accused.
Their remand at the Abolongo Correctional Center in Oyo Town was imposed by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu after he refused to accept their plea due to a lack of authority in the case.
Mr. Idowu postponed the matter until March 14, 2023, for mention, stating that the remand is seeking a legal opinion from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecution.
Patience Okafor was taken from her home in the Challenge neighbourhood of Ibadan around 8:00 a.m. on July 21. This is what the prosecutor, Femi Oluwadare, said in court earlier.
“Okafor was held captive for 10 days before the defendants bought her brother’s release for N15 million.
Ganiyat Atitebi was taken by force on August 28 at about 5:00 p.m. near Lead City University on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in Ibadan, under an overhead bridge.
The prosecutor told the court, “After holding her for eight days, the defendants gave her back to her family after getting N5 million from them.”
Both Section 4(2) of the Oyo State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law 2016 and Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000 were broken, according to Mr. Oluwadare.
